BMW Motorrad has unveiled a prototype of the M 1000 XR, a new high-performance sport tourer that will be the third M-badged motorcycle from the German brand. The M 1000 XR is based on the current S 1000 XR but has been extensively upgraded with a more powerful engine, lighter chassis, and aggressive styling.

The M 1000 XR is powered by a 999cc in-line four-cylinder engine that has been uprated to produce 200 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque. The machine is moved to a six-speed manual transmission and BMW’s ShiftCam variable valve timing system.
The chassis of the M 1000 XR is made from a combination of aluminium and carbon fibre and is 10 kilograms (22 pounds) lighter than the standard S 1000 XR chassis. The suspension is fully adjustable, and the brakes are Brembo Stylema monobloc callipers.
