The London-based EV start-up Ark Motors has recently unveiled its electric microcar, the Ark Zero. Priced at £5995, British media has touted it as “the UK’s most affordable electric car.” Despite lacking online information about Ark Motors, the company has gained significant attention in the British press with its city-oriented microcar.

Specs

The Ark Zero is designed for urban environments and has a range of just over 50 miles (80 kilometres). Its top speed is 28 mph (45 km/h), indicating that it is not intended for highway use. With a 3-horsepower (2.2-kilowatt) battery, Ark Zero’s energy consumption is comparable to two- and three-wheelers. The vehicle has enough space for “two people and a dog,” with one person seated in the front and another in the back.

In terms of dimensions, the Ark Zero measures 98.4 inches (250 cm) in length, 47.3 inches (120 cm) in width, and 64 inches (162 cm) in height. Its wheelbase is 67.7 inches (172 cm). British media outlets have compared the Ark Zero to the Citroen Ami, although smaller and less expensive electric vehicles are gaining popularity in Europe due to energy constraints.

Competitors

For example, Italian car-sharing provider Enjoy recently announced plans to add 100 electric microcars from Italian start-up XEV, which have a range of around 150 kilometres and a speed limit of 80 km/h. Renault’s Mobilize also offers microcars, among other companies.

According to a spokesperson from Ark, the Ark Zero is hailed as the most functional car since the Ford Model T, criticizing over-engineered vehicles that have flooded the market. The start-up claims to address market needs efficiently and affordably with Ark Zero. While the company has mentioned plans to launch an A-segment car shortly, no further details have been disclosed.

Ark Motors

In a sensational announcement, Ark Motors has revealed its intention to offer autonomous ride-hailing services in London starting next year, although limited information is available about this venture. The ability to manufacture autonomous technology cost-effectively and reliably suggests the involvement of a few major players, although the specific partners remain undisclosed at this time. The professionalism exhibited during the Ark Zero launch indicates that the product and the company may have the support of larger entities who have chosen to remain quiet for now.

Ark Motors focuses on launching Ark Zero solely in the domestic market, but it plans to expand to other countries. The microcar can only be ordered online through the company’s website.
