If one thing was missing from the original 890 Duke, it was a MotoGP-inspired colourway. Thankfully, KTM wasted no time making good on that particular ommission with its updated 2022 lineup, which includes both the all-new 890 Duke GP and revised 890 Duke R.

The mid-size superbike is receiving the first of what we expect will be many updates in coming years. With its aggressive styling, – MotoGP inspired “Super Scalpel” colourway, and flashy livery, the Duke R looks like your typical KTM. A glance doesn’t reveal much that has changed.

For 2022, the 890 Duke R has the same components as 320mm Brembo Stylema discs on the front and the Brembo MCS master cylinder at the rear. Further, it has Michelin Power Cup 2 tires and WP APEX suspension to support it on track and the road.

The KTM 890 Duke R blends an unparalleled mix of performance and technology when it comes to premium street bikes. The performance comes from an intricately tuned, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, 890cc para twin engine that makes 121 hp at 9500 rpm and 73 lb-ft of torque.

This powerplant is mated to a ride-by-wire throttle that offers selectable riding modes (Rain, Street and Road).

The new R model builds on the KTM 890 Duke platform and brings a host of factory racing technology to the street, headlined by the IMU — a six-axis sensor and wheel slip control sensor.

It allows for combined lean-angle sensitive traction control and cornering ABS. The IMU also provides the lean-angle sensitive Power Modes and enhanced ride-by-wire throttle.

The new 890 is undoubtedly the scalpel that its model number would suggest. It’s a powerful and aggressive middleweight sportbike that’s equally comfortable ripping around town or blazing down your favourite twisty road.

KTM also made sure the new 890 Duke R gets switchable anti-wheelie nine levels of traction control. The Matte blue shade takes inspiration from the RC 16 MotoGP race bike. And can also be seen on the KTM 1290 Super Duke R.

KTM’s 890 Duke was already a stunner. But now, the firm has unveiled a new and improved range-topping model, the Duke R.The new model, will arrive in dealerships on February 2022 with a price tag of $11,999.
