GPX Legend-250 Twin

One of the early ways more prominent motorcycle manufacturers began to churn out neo-retro machines was via 250cc, or “middleweight,” engines.

The middleweight engine was usually based on their entry-level bikes. However with smaller wheels, higher handlebars, and other visual modifications to give it that “retro” style.

This method has become more popular as it allows manufacturers to release more “traditional” styled motorcycles. Which are easier to sell than the sportier-looking small capacity motorcycles, which also sport retro styling.

The latest entrant in this retro revolution is Thailand-based GPX.The GPX 250 Twin retro-inspired naked cafe racer makers.

What differentiates the GPX 250 Twin from the rest of the pack is its massive. Powerful dual disc brakes and flat clips-on

GPX claims to have built this bike to give it “a full neo-retro cafe racer look” with “the functionality of an urban commuter.”

It also sports a 14.5 litres fuel tank. Which gives it a maximum range of more than 300 kilometres.

GPX has just broken cover on the Legend 250. Its debut model for the Malaysian market.

There are big boots to fill, having to take on the likes of Honda’s iconic CB series bikes, which have ruled this part of the planet for decades.

However, the 250cc mid-sized retro machine that GPX has in showrooms today is worth taking notice of.

GPX doesn’t seem to have done any of that. If anything, the Legend 250 looks almost radical next to its competition. With GPX taking inspiration from the neo cafe racer world to get the design just right.

The flat handlebars, pronounced tank curves, flat seat unit, and large round headlight give it a decidedly old-school look.

All these combine to form a retro roadster aesthetic that GPX has elected to go with, keeping the traditional spec sheet under the hood.

The GPX Legend 250 is a neo-retro roadster that looks a lot cooler in the flesh than in the press photos.

And with a headlamp that’s lighter and more compact than what most bikes get nowadays. It’s clear that the 250cc is quite ahead of its time.

Specs

And if going retro wasn’t enough. They even throw in a digital LCD instrument cluster along with some premium components such as an inverted fork and dual front disc brakes.

If you think all this makes this bike feel too much like a big bike, there’s more to back you up.

It packs a 15 horsepower punch from a 234 cc parallel-twin engine, for starters. Not to mention, GPX has even made sure to wrap all this up inside.

The model’s aesthetics draw apparent inspiration from classic British cafe racers, a feat that it accomplishes pretty adroitly.

To that end, the motorcycle in question boasts a short front fairing and an extended rear portion to complement its heritage-inspired design. The Legend 250 arrives in three paint schemes Red, Black and Dark Green.

In addition, both fenders come equipped with matching dual-sport tires. The GPX will cost you around $2,500, which is close to INR 1.87 Lakhs in India.

However, whether GPX wants to bring the Legend 250 to India is still a question.
