Kawasaki seems to be playing catch-up here if they want to polish their features up against the competition.

The lack of radar for collision avoidance. And adaptive cruise control on a motorcycle can make it inconvenient for some people.

On the other hand.Ducati users enjoy more safety by using this feature while at their fingertips on the Multistrada V4.

The Ninja H2 SX arrives based on the Ninja H2, updated for 2018 with many changes. Including a power bump from the supercharged 998cc inline-four, revised instrument cluster, and updated face.

The H2 SX takes this updated design and places it into a sport-touring body package complete with hard panniers. And a touring windscreen.

Now, these patents reveal that the SX will also be getting a futuristic radar system in addition to all of its other features.

How does it work?

While patents are yet to materialize into a working product.Kawasaki filed reveals he motorbike manufacturer plans to use a single radar tech on the Ninja H2 SX.

The motorcycle will keep track of oncoming hazards and speed up the adaptive cruise control features.

At the front of the bike, an easy-to-spot recessed area reveals the expected location for the Bosch radar unit. We expect there to be limited space around the unit to fit aftermarket fenders and other accessories.

But it’s when you get to the rear of the Ninja H2 SX where things get interesting. At first glance, there appears to be a reasonably small tail tidy which contains a small exhaust.

But look closer. And you’ll see the top section of this neat is a sufficiently large metal box containing not only the taillight but also the Bosch-supplied radar system.

Three core areas

To mount the radar unit on the 2022 Ninja H2 SX.Kawasaki has used a three areas blinker system, radar unit and frame. The upper and lower area is responsible for covering the entire assembly. And it also makes sure the whole unit looks robust.

Further to decrease the weight, Kawasaki engineers made sure the glass fibre composite material and metal were used to increase the tail section rigidity. The design is neat and straightforward while also serving an essential purpose—to keep everything aerodynamic.

The upper cover, which has radar and electronics, is built carefully. That said, its lightweight construction won’t be a hindrance to the rider or an obstacle for the aerodynamics.

However, the lower tail section is responsible for protecting the wires that connect to blinkers and radar. The entire radar assembly is made waterproof.

It isn’t often that mainstream motorcyclists get to see their favourite manufacturer develop cutting-edge technology on the street.

It’s even rarer still for advancements in motorcycle safety to make their way into the aftermarket world without some level of compromise or modification.

Browsing Kawasaki’s new 2022 look Ninja H2 SX, however, might just leave you with your mouth open.Wondering how an OEM managed to get ahead of the game with what is probably the best defence against distracted driving on any road before it’s even hit the streets.
