As per the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales in April 2023 experienced a decline of 4.03% compared to the same month in the previous year. The overall sales for April 2023 amounted to 17,24,935 units, whereas in April 2022, the sales were 17,97,432.

In April 2023, tractor sales saw a marginal increase of 1.48%, with 55,835 units sold compared to 55,019 units in April 2022.

On the other hand, two-wheeler sales witnessed a decline of 7.30%, with 12,29,911 units sold in April 2023 compared to 13,26,773 units in April 2022.

Three-wheeler sales experienced a significant increase of 57.22% in April 2023, with 70,928 units sold compared to 45,114 units in April 2022.

Figures

Passenger vehicle sales also experienced a slight decline of 1.35% in April 2023, with 2,82,674 units sold compared to 2,86,539 units in April 2022.

In contrast, commercial vehicle sales saw a modest increase of 1.91%, with 85,587 units sold in April 2023 compared to 83,987 units in the previous year.

The decline in passenger vehicle sales in April 2023 can be attributed to factors such as the high base from the previous year and the implementation of the OBD 2A norms, which resulted in increased vehicle prices and advanced purchases in March.

The decrease in two-wheeler sales can be attributed to limited supplies due to the shift to OBD 2A norms, untimely rains, and pre-buying in March.
