Hafizh Syahrin has announced his intention of leaving the Moto2 class following 2021 and switching to the World Superbike series with a scheduled move into Superbike for the 2022 season. The news is not yet confirmed.
However, it is revealed that he has been talking with several teams from the Superbike class.
Predictions regarding Syahrin’s impending move overseas to race in WorldSBK have been doing the rounds for a while now. However, it was only recently that his declaration came.
With the Malaysian moving to a different class next year, the current team will find his replacement.
Interestingly enough, the Dutch-based NTS RW Racing GP team rider has been linked to the MIE Racing Honda team.
Though a real surprise, the news of Hafizh Syahrin departing from Moto2 was nothing but expected.
MIE Racing Honda Team
Though he has been struggling with the NTS bike in recent seasons, Syahrin remains an excellent rider who could’ve been a genuine title contender had he done an entire season with a top team.
He currently stands 28th in the Moto2 riders’ championship. Ahead of most riders with bikes from factories. His departure from the series leaves the door wide open for a replacement for 2021.
These talks with the MIE Honda Racing Team, at the moment, can be described as “preliminary” and not formal. It is because Syahrin’s only contract on the roster of the NTS RW Racing GP team, his current team, will expire at the end of the 2021 season.
If he wants to leave the team directly for WSBK, he will need to sort things out with his team first. I think there may be a chance that we could see him depart from MME Racing before the contract ends, but nothing has been said yet.
There aren’t many current rider negotiations happening for the WorldSBK at the moment. But Hafizh Syahrin’s could be a huge deal if it all goes through.
