Riding a Sherco remains an enjoyable, if not familiar, experience. The bike doesn’t feel overly changed, although it’s more nimble and manoeuvrable thanks to the new chassis, and that’s always a good thing in a race environment.
Off-road performance is exemplary; thanks to its lighter weight, you can cram more momentum into the existing motor (that powerband is still right up there on the top of the rev range) for improved performance.
However, in the 2021 Dakar Rally, the brand could not get much from these machines.
So as the brand prepares for a new year and a new season, they’re not planning on just sitting around.
As we mentioned, the brand will be fielding new bikes in the Sherco 450 SEF Factory, which were specifically designed to tackle the upcoming rally event.
These three machines will be used by Lorenzo Santolino, Rui Goncalves and Harith Noah.
Their designs aren’t exactly revolutionary, but there are still a few parts that have been beefed up or changed entirely to help them fight back against the immense competition.
Sherco took what it learned from Morocco and applied it to the Dakar version of its Enduro 450 SEF. The France-based company will make its assault on the Dakar Rally in 2022.
They’re currently testing the new rally bike at races across Europe, despite manufacturers not yet allowed to compete in off-road races with their production models.
Details are scarce, but what we do know is that a 450cc single-cylinder engine powers it. They have not mentioned the power figures. The bike gets the two-tone shade of standard blue with high yellow.
When comparing, Sherco 450 Rally gets the up top fairing while the standard bike arrives with KYB front and rear suspension.
However, the Rally version will arrive with the BOS MAC racing suspension. Rally gets the Akrapovic muffler while the standard bike has the stock exhaust.
