It’s not every moment in life you can shape by a company’s direction and history forever. When Ducati unveiled the Desert X concept at EICMA 2019, it set expectations for what an adventure could be.
The concept was developed on the Scrambler platform and looked like a scaled-down Multistrada 1260.
It was gorgeous but failed to deliver the level of performance commonly found in the segment after a positive fan reaction to the unveiling.
Ducati decided to move forward with the production model. Which would live up to the DesertX name.
To do so, it built an all-new chassis. And adopted its tried-and-true Testastretta L-Twin powerplant as a benchmark for performance.
DesertX
Ducati caps off its new 2022 DesertX series with the production of a new bike. Designed to go where no Ducati has gone before, at least in terms of the dirt.
The official word from the brand is that these bikes will be made for “off-road enthusiasts who love to explore the unknown”. And that these are motorcycles “designed for riders who go beyond their limits, again and again.”
And, after a few days to think things over, we must admit. This is one of our favourite surprises to come from Bologna in years. While we’re still uncertain about the odd name (DesertX? Really?), even that has a certain charm.
Ducati has been focused heavily on more extensive adventures since the Multistrada was released. But with this new bike, it looks like they may be ready to take on some serious off-roading.
