KTM decided to expand the model family. One year later, the prototype of a future-generation 990 spied on test drives in Austria, as LivingWithGravity reports.

Spy shots available of the future prototype of the successor of the KTM 990 model series in Austria.

These photos show a relatively well-developed model which seems to be at an early stage of development.

A less disguised prototype is on the road in Austria, and we’ve got some detailed shots from all angles and both sides of the bike.

The bike reveals new body parts with new headlights and other minor changes to the engine, exhaust and chassis.

Although all the components are visible, it is still a prototype, and the bike still has a long way to go before series production is possible, which will take about two years.

Testing vehicles in Europe is usually quite exciting. Here an early prototype of a future 2023 KTM 990 was caught during test drives in Austria.

Spied

In 2024 the second phase of the Euro 5b norms for motorcycles will comply. And this should improve the emission value of engines and make a much smoother exhaust tract possible.

To ride on the wave of this innovation, it seems to us as if KTM plans to provide its 990 Duke with a new model variant.

A machine that seems to have been designed to comply with these future bans. We believe we found the evidence while on our research surveys.

The new rules will also see redesigned swingarm and a new onboard diagnostic system. There had been much chatter about what could be expected from the new 990 Duke.

I mean, it’s not finally here. But does this bike look all that different to the old Duke? And I mean, sure, it looks new, but the frame is identical to the outgoing model.

And even the engine appears to be pretty much unchanged at a glance, but we are sure it will be new with 990cc.

The model will have more power when compared with the current 890 Duke R that has 121hp.
