The De Bethune DB28XS Aérolite is a unique watch inspired by space. Master watchmaker Denis Flageollet loves using materials from outer space, like pieces of genuine meteorites. These meteorites are ancient rocks travelled through space for millions of years before crashing on Earth.
This watch is made from a meteorite called Muonionalusta, over 4.5 billion years old. It was discovered in northern Sweden in 1906. The meteorite is mainly made of iron, and when polished, it shows beautiful patterns look like crisscrossing lines.
One of the most incredible things about the DB28XS Aérolite is its unique blue dial. The blue colour isn’t painted on; it’s created by a special heat treatment makes the meteorite change colours in the light. The dial can appear blue, purple, green, or even grey, depending on how you look at it. The surface of the dial is also hand-carved with tiny wave-like patterns.
Tiny gold dots on the watch face represent stars, and the hands of the watch are made of pink gold. They’re designed to move smoothly around the dial, showing the time elegantly. Each dial is different because every piece of meteorite is unique, and no two watches will ever look the same.
The back of the watch is made of transparent sapphire crystal, letting you see the inside. You can view its DB2005 manual-winding movement, which has a power reserve lasting up to 6 days. The twin barrels power the watch are visible through the back, along with a polished bridge and balance wheel.
This limited-edition watch is available with a leather or fabric strap and costs about CHF 105,000. It’s a rare and beautiful watch for anyone who loves space and the mysteries of the universe.
