The European motorcycle industry just took a big step forward with the debut of Kymco’s line of all-electric scooters at the EICMA show in Milan.

While the OEM had previously displayed electric models at other shows, it’s first New Products exhibit on the continent.

Kymco formally announced its Ionex electromobility platform to the European market during a press conference before EICMA 2021. Which is currently being held in Italy through the weekend.

The two-wheeler ecosystem will be anchored by its first e-scooters from the Ionex family. As well distinct scooter varieties designed to connect with the platform’s proprietary swappable batteries.

Kymco, seeing a decline ( Source: Motorcyclesdata) in sales for the first time in its history,is looking to Ionex as a significant key to future success.

While its main line of scooters still uses internal combustion engines instead of electric powertrains. These gas-guzzlers are not what most people think about when it comes to scooters.

And Ionex will position Kymco as a more performance-oriented brand than the more utility-style company today.

Kymco has outlined planned future models for its Ionex compact electric scooter line for Europe. Which seems poised to make a bit of an impact with its range of models (at least that’s what the OEM may be hoping).

The presentation involved six new electric scooters. The news comes after EICMA’s recent unveiling of its massive Kymco Ionex electrified scooter lineup. Which thus far includes I-One X, I-One, Agility Carry EV, Super 7 EV, Super 9 EV, and Super 6 EV models.

Kymco will launch a new line of electric scooters in European markets. One of which will be equipped with a system designed to provide “on-demand battery delivery and battery swapping services.

Lineup

Kmyco has already launched the lineup earlier in Taiwan in August 2021.

But with the unveiling of Kymco Ionex at EICMA, the scooter will make its way to Europe in 2021.

It is particularly notable because it looks like Kymco’s biggest competitor in the swappable battery EV network space, Gogoro. Will begin entering new markets in India, China, and Southeast Asia over the course of 2021.

And this could give Kymco an edge to establish an early lead in the market for this kind of system before competition arrives.
