Tata Motors‘ expectation of CNG-powered cars to account for 30% of total sales by 2030 is bold, but it is not without merit. CNG cars offer several advantages over petrol and diesel cars, including lower running costs, reduced emissions, and improved fuel efficiency. In addition, the government is also offering incentives for the purchase of CNG cars, which is likely to boost demand further.

EVs and CNG

The market share of EVs, CNG cars, and petrol vehicles is also expected to be almost equal by the end of this decade. This is due to the increasing popularity of EVs, which offer many advantages over traditional fuel-powered cars, such as zero emissions and lower running costs. However, the high cost of EVs is still a significant barrier to their adoption, and CNG cars will likely continue to be a popular choice for many buyers in the coming years.

The growth of the CNG segment is driven by several factors, including rising fuel prices, increasing awareness of the environmental benefits of CNG, and government incentives. The segment is expected to grow in the coming years, and Tata Motors is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth.

Statement

Talking to Autocar ProShailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the CNG segment has taken off in the last few years. Tata Motors wants to harmonise this technology across its portfolio.

“Our multi-train powertrain strategy has helped us grow faster than the market and will continue to drive sales this year too. The CNG penetration is expected to move up from 10% at present to 25% by the end of the decade; we would like to move in line with that or even have a higher share,”

Here are reasons why CNG cars are becoming more popular in India:

  • Lower running costs: CNG is a cheaper fuel than petrol or diesel, saving car owners a significant amount of money on their fuel bills.
  • Reduced emissions: CNG cars emit fewer pollutants than petrol or diesel cars, which is better for the environment.
  • Improved fuel efficiency: CNG cars are more fuel-efficient than petrol or diesel cars, saving car owners even more money on fuel bills.
  • Government incentives: The government offers several incentives for purchasing CNG cars, which can make them even more affordable for car buyers.

Overall, CNG cars offer several advantages over petrol or diesel cars, which is why they are becoming increasingly popular in India. Tata Motors is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth, and the company is expected to see a significant increase in sales of CNG cars in the coming years.
