Instead of focussing on just cruiser motorcycles, BMW now seems to be expanding the series into adding bagger models this year. When we saw pictures of the leaked prototype earlier in March, it showed a new R18 Bagger with a stretched silhouette.
However, there wasn’t much information available at that point. Today, we found out a fair bit more about the new R18 Bagger models and their specifications.
The BMW R18 Transcontinental Bagger is a prime example of what happens when a classically styled cruiser meets modern-day sport styling. And the result is as stunning as it gets for a cruiser.
The R18 Bagger also has a rather bulky, fully-faired design to provide the rider and pillion with ample protection. As is expected from BMW motorcycles, this feature will come as standard.
A further set of standard features are infotainment system, heat seat function and panniers. The standard model is expected to get the saddlebags and panniers.
These two-baggers will get the same set of R18 engine, which is 1,802cc boxer which makes 90PS and 151.45Nm. We don’t see BMW Motorrad amending the motor.
The bike may also get a large TFT, Navigation and Smartphone connectivity.
The Transcontinental Bagger will have more premium compared to the R18. And will go against the Indian Challenger and Harley’s Road Glide.
