Yamaha unveiled the 2022 TMAX and TMAX Tech Max. One glance at the new model will reveal that the Japanese manufacturer has done more than just slap some new graphics on last year’s design.
While there are still some familiar elements to be found on the bike’s bodywork (the T-logo on the fuel tank, for example, is still there), Yamaha has gone ahead and redesigned its flagship maxi scooter extensively.
The most noticeable change is naturally its revised styling which now features more angular bodywork and a redesigned fascia. The bike now looks somewhat aggressive and compact.
Revising the design to meet the new expectations was no easy feat, which Yamaha gladly admits.

Mature scooter
Thankfully for the brand’s development team, the maxi-scooter market is quite mature across Europe, which meant that it did not have to be afraid of alienating its clientele by making too many changes.
Granted, opting for a more angular bodywork design wasn’t exactly the easiest route to take, but you should all agree that it looks much better than before. The same can be said for the bike’s redesigned fascia.
The modern tweaks make the front LED headlight slim with a sharper boomerang-shaped look. It suits the new aggressive face of the motorcycle. The new air intakes below the headlights make it look sporty.
2022 TMAX side
Right off the bat, the most notable change is the rear section, where grab-handles are for both rider and passenger.
The rear area of the scooter is smaller now, leaving more room for both feet of the pillion (passenger). The grab handles hint at the possibility to provide extra comfort to the pillion.
Further, the central area gets narrower, which in turn provides more legroom for the rider. It arrives in the yellow shade.
Significant changes
A significant facelift and an unchanged 560cc,Euro 5 engine with 47.5 hp aren’t all that went into this beast for the 2022 model year. Yamaha has made sure that the TMAX is more than just a looker.
With the help of SpinForging technology, Yamaha engineers made sure the spokes were redesigned and are now lighter.
Bridgestone Battlax SC2 tires now support these new wheels. Yamaha has also updated the suspension settings for better compliance.
2022 TMAX rear
We don’t see any change in the shock absorbers as the front has the same 41mm inverted fork and the rear has a 41mm inverted fork.
The TMAX 2022 also gets the wide seven-inch, full-colour TFT console with WiFi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Garmin GPS unit also now supports navigation.
On Tech Max, we get to see the backlit controls, cruise control, an adjustable rear, electronically adjustable, heated saddle and grip.
Yamaha has also used premium components for instrument console and switchgear housing.
