After recovering from his injuries.Marc Marquez returned to the MotoGP grid for the Portuguese Grand Prix on April 18, 2021.

Fans worldwide were excited to see their favourite rider back in action. But many questioned whether he was 100% healed.

While it appeared that he had shaken off any weakness in his right arm. And hand that plagued him after his July 19 crash at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He continued to have problems with his arm during races.

Considering his dominant 2018 campaign, where he won multiple races. His ensuing pre-season struggles have not gone unnoticed. While Marquez may have won at Sachsenring, it comes at a cost.

Talking to Italian web magazine Motociclism he said.

Marc-Marquez-Fall

Quote

“Now I’m competing and trying to do my best, but I’m not enjoying it. I enjoy it in some moments, in a couple of laps and in some corners. But it still cannot be said that it is fully because when you feel pain, you do not enjoy.”

Marc Marquez is an excellent example of a counter-clockwise bias. If we look at his statistics, you can see that he has performed better with counter-clockwise tracks throughout his career.

When we take away his most recent back injury. He nearly always performs well with left-handed turns.

He won the last MotoGP race in Germany and has shown strong performances at tracks such as and Sachsenring. With Sachsenring having five left-handed turns and one right-handed turn.

These track layouts seem to favour Marquez and offer an advantage to his defensive style.

“Until Austin, we will have two weeks. And we will try to work at home to take a step forward because now I drag two races in a row.And I need to rest for several days after a race because it hurts.

That’s not the way I worked in the past because now I have a specific plan and plan A is to work on myself.”

In some ways, his inability to manage tyres and stability on corner exit is a curse as well as a blessing.

He’s always been able to push the bike further than anyone else on the grid. But it has led to 18 (with Free Practice) crashes this season.

Despite the challenging situation.Marquez still manages to be optimistic about his performance during Sunday’s race.

While he did just complete the biggest comeback in MotoGP history. He did so while injured and fighting his teammate for the championship.

These conditions did not exist last year when he won multiple races. His confidence lies in the fact that he’s once again healthy and can use his aggression to exploit grip where others can’t.
