Riding over the South Pole on a motorcycle sounds like the last thing you’d expect to see in your lifetime, but that’s precisely what Santhosh Vijay Kumar and Dean Coxson did.
They made history by being the first riders ever to reach the South Pole on motorcycles. Their journey began on December 20, 2021, when they started riding Royal Enfield Himalayans across the ice fields of Antarctica.
Royal Enfield is built on the notion that the driving experiences of today and the classic era of motorcycling aren’t mutually exclusive. To distance itself from me-too motorcycles made by the thousands, Royal Enfield continues to differentiate with unique projects.
As a Royal Enfield Senior Engineer, we can’t understate Dean Coxson’s value on such an ambitious trip. During his time away from the factory working on the expedition.
Video
The completed video showcased a prototype of the Meteor 650. According to our intel, Royal Enfield worked on the new middleweight cruiser Meteor 650.
But aside from a few spy photos and an engine shot, we haven’t seen much else. However, the video gives us insight into what the Meteor 650 could be.
At 33 seconds into the clip, we get a glimpse of its test mules that look almost exactly like the bike mothership is working on.
We can see its parallel-twin engine, large gas tank, looped frame and side covers.
If you’ve been watching the video, you’d have noticed the Royal Enfield that was positioned as Coxon walked in. Now, this wasn’t just some random Royal Enfield bike, but a potential upcoming model from the brand.
There were rumours of the Meteor 650 being unveiled at EICMA 2021. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, but that doesn’t mean there are no details about it online.
However, apart from the SG650, we haven’t seen much from RE. But, we feel RE will launch the Meteor 650 in 2022.
