The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is an electric van that has generated a lot of excitement since its debut as a concept at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. It is part of Volkswagen’s ID. Series of electric vehicles, which are based on the MEB platform. The ID. Buzz is set to be released in North America later this year for the 2025 model year.
The new ID. Buzz pays homage to the iconic Volkswagen Bus of the ’60s and ’70s, a cultural staple in the United States for around 50 years—the ID. Buzz returns the VW Bus to the American market, but this time with an all-electric motor. It has a longer wheelbase of 127.5 inches, 10 inches longer than its European counterpart, providing more space and allowing for a third row of seating. In total, the ID. Buzz can accommodate up to seven passengers.
The electric van is equipped with an 85 kWh motor, delivering up to 286 horsepower and achieving a 0-to-60 mph time of 7.9 seconds. However, the all-wheel-drive GTX version offers even more power, with 339 horsepower and a 0-to-60 mph time of 6.4 seconds—the top speed of the ID. Buzz exceeds 99 mph, surpassing the Euro Buzz’s top speed of 90 mph.
In terms of features, the ID. Buzz offers various upgrades compared to its predecessors. The longer wheelbase creates an additional 2,469 litres of storage space. The interior boasts a new head-up display, an upgraded infotainment system, air-conditioned seats, and the most significant glass roof ever built by Volkswagen. Inspired by the Samba Bus, the 1.5-square-meter panoramic sunroof features smart glass technology, allowing it to transition from transparent to opaque with a touch or voice command.
While the price has not been announced yet, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz will be available for purchase later this year as a 2025 model. It represents a modern and electric take on the beloved VW Bus, offering improved performance and advanced features to meet the demands of today’s consumers.
