Honda is slowly inching towards the final details of the Africa Twin’s sibling, the NT1100.

The Japanese moto manufacturer hasn’t released many details about their upcoming standard model (to be positioned below the Africa Twin). But some interesting tidbits have recently been documented.

In August 2020, the Japanese famous web publication Young Machine made a rendering of NT1100. Rendering is undoubtedly attention-getting.But it reveals nothing about the Machine’s capabilities.

Africa Twin parallel-twin? Spritely nature? Front fairing? No idea, as Honda hasn’t said a word. And probably won’t until the Honda officially reveals the NT1100.

Later in November 2020.Another Japanese publication Auto.by made profound revelations that Honda is working on CB1100X featuring the Africa Twin’s 1,084cc parallel-twin.

The NT1100 has been in the works after a patent claiming it exists published lately.

There has been much debate about whether Honda could be preparing to bring back the iconic GL1100. But the company has never shown interest in doing so.

The NT1100 nomenclature makes sure the CB is being dropped. The SC, which is the model’s internal code.

It also talks about its specifications. Like “S” shows the model will get an engine over 900cc while the “C” indicates that it is a street bike.

When we compare it with the Africa Twin’s SD08 internal code, the “D” stands for off-roading capabilities.

Now, this does show the new NT1100 will be an aggressive sport-tourer.

Performance figures of NT1100

The performance figures will remain the same as the African twin with 101 hp 7,500 rpm and 77 pound-feet of torque at 6,250 rpm.

DCT and standard variants will also accompany the new NT1100. What’s more, we would also see the semi-auto transmission with a tall windscreen, making it ideal for long trips.

However, the NT1100 will arrive with low ground clearance and less suspension travel with a short wheelbase.

We also won’t see the trellis frame.Which will make the NT1100 lighter and give it specific on-road characteristics. The silhouette will be similar to the BMW’s sport-tourer S 1100 XR.

According to a report, the new Honda NT1100 will be released in 2022. Not much is known about the upcoming model and its specs.

However, long-time Honda fans are already speculating that it could be available with a 1.8-litre engine from the Africa Twin, too.

The new NT1100 will undoubtedly be different from the renders designed by Young Machine. However, Honda may take some cues from them.

With EICMA 2021 on its way, we surely will get more information in November 2021.
