TVS now owns the company. They have decided to re-launch the old Norton brand and hope to revive its mass appeal and popularity in India.
Not too long ago, TVS revived the renowned brand – Norton – after an almost couple of year hiatus.
And we had asked you what you’d like to see on the bikes and got a great response.
Now comes the news that Norton set to return here very soon, but this time, it will be owned entirely by TVS.
The new range of motorsport machines readied for launch here will be called Atlas and share its design cues with the military bikes.
The iconic British brand Norton Motorcycles was formed at premises in Bradford Street, Birmingham by James Lansdowne Norton, in 1898.
Initially selling bicycles, the company began manufacturing motorcycles with its first twin-cylinder bike, ‘Big BIKE’, in 1913.
While Norton’s factory got destroyed during World War II. It returned to production after gaining popularity between the wars and was re-acquired by Manganese Bronze Holdings (MBH) in 1947.
In April 2020, in our article, we did mention how close TVS was to buy Norton? As Norton was in £40m in debt.
And then, in August 2020, TVS acquired Norton in an all-cash deal of GBP16 million, Rs 153 crore.
Later in October 2020, Norton had filed six names with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
And the names are “Norton Nomad “, “Ranger “, “Electra “, “Fastback “, “Navigator “and “Combat”.
However, we now see the V4SS, Atlas and V4RR on the Indian website.
