In the past few years, Royal Enfield has gained significant popularity in markets beyond its home turf of India.
In Europe, for example, the 650cc segment is a hotly contested space that has forced brands to step up their game in terms of technology, design and features.
It remains to be seen if the Concept KX will have what it takes to succeed in Europe and other competitive markets.
With much fanfare, the Concept KX was unveiled at EICMA 2018. While we could argue that RE was merely playing catch-up with its Japanese competitors. The fact that it went along with this idea earned considerable street cred for the brand.
And Rumor mill suggests we could see the new 650cc cruiser at the upcoming EICMA 2021.
If Royal Enfield has been paying attention to the European market in general. And their home market in particular. They must have realized by now that the 650cc segment is booming.
After all, Triumph offers a slew of models like Trident 660. And Tiger Sport 660, although they may not directly rival this segment as it is a cruiser segment.
However, it makes sense for Royal Enfield to boost their lineup to better compete against its UK rivals without going too far off their traditional path.
On the other hand, Kawasaki already has Vulcan in the 650 cruiser segment.
Specs
The cruiser will have a 648cc parallel-twin, SOHC, 8-valve engine, which Royal Enfield may plan to loan from either Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. While the original concept had 883 CC, V Twin the production will have the lower displacement
Based on the Continental GT 650’s chassis, sources report that the cruiser could receive forward controls.
We may also see premium components like USD front end and rear twin shock absorbers for electronics assist. Slipper clutch, twin shock, dual-channel ABS, tripper navigation, and digital console.
The Bobber concept looks fresh and intimidating and this appealing concept gets below specs.
The bike will wear a completely new and unique design and promises to be unlike anything we’ve seen before from Royal Enfield.
It’ll likely draw inspiration from the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650, though chances are. It’ll take pointers from the Continental GT Speed styling-wise as well, but it’s too early to tell for sure.
And given how the essentially identical Interceptor 650. And Continental GT don’t share any cosmetic elements with the Concept KX model, we doubt it will launch with the same nameplate.
Instead, we expect to see it go by a different moniker, and we couldn’t be more excited to see how it turns out!
Royal Enfield’s presence at EICMA 2021 will be for the first time after a year gap. It is exciting and lends credibility to the news that it will launch a new Super Meteor, besides bringing out the 650 Cruiser.
However, will this take us back to the classic thump, is the question Royal Enfield enthusiasts may still ask.
