With the Ténéré 700, Yamaha introduced a model that challenged the dominance of its Austrian rival KTM 790 Adventure in the affordable middleweight adventure bike segment.

It offered a smaller engine specially designed for off-road riding. And it was undoubtedly much more affordable than its main rival.

The two were undoubtedly evenly matched, but it was a question of which bike would find more favour among the general public.
