Yamaha is thinking on the next level.

Yamaha has all geared their ante with the filing of a recent trademark.

We reported in our last article about Yamaha revamping its entire YZF series. And the models are suitable from R1, R9, YZF-R15, YZF-R20 and YZF-R25.

Yamaha also plans to bring the R2, R4, R5, R8, and R20 a lower displacement variant.

Yamaha XSR 250

Further,  buzz Yamaha is also working on the lower displacement 250cc XSR sports heritage model, and it is likely to enter the international markets soon.

With motorcycle enthusiasts moving away from the higher displacement sports models, the lower displacement market below 500cc is getting much traction. And one such example is Kawasaki ZX-25r.

And Yamaha bringing the XSR 250 will be another high demand product in their portfolio.

What’s more interesting to see is Yamaha already has the MT-25 in markets like Malaysia and Indonesia.

And there is no doubt Yamaha will plan the upcoming XSR 250 on the existing MT-25 platform.

However, in future, we don’t see XSR 250 will arrive in India anytime soon. It is for those countries where MT-15 is already sold, plus for few European countries.

The price tag we expect to be in the Rs 3.5 to 4 lakhs INR range even if it arrives.

XSR 250 on MT-25 platform

We expect the XSR 250 will share a similar design as XSR 700 and XSR 900. However, the 249cc, Liquid-cooled, 4 Stroke, DOHC, 4-Valves motor will arrive from MT-25.

The present MT-25 motor makes 25.8 kW (35.1PS) @ 12000 rpm and 22.6 Nm (2.3 kg-m) @ 10000 rpm as torque.

However, here for XSR 250, we may see a tweak in power delivery. The 249cc motor will come with a 6-speed transmission and get the same hydraulic single disc brakes on the front and rear as MT-25.

XSR 250 will share most other hardware components from MT-25. We also see the new XSR 250 will get the same Telescopic Forks suspension as MT-25.

Again the XSR 250 will get the standard specs like Dual-Channel ABS and Assist & Slipper clutch mechanism.

Competitors

The new XSR 250 will compete with Benelli Leoncino 250, KTM Duke 250, Yamaha FZ 25 and Suzuki Gixxer 250.

However, Leoncino 250 and FZ 25 will be the closest rivals as they fall near the same category as XSR 250. While Duke 250 and Suzuki Gixxer 250 are sports naked and sports model, respectively.

Expected XSR 250 features

Note: These are expected specs. The features are taken from the Yamaha Malaysia website.

XSR 155

Yamaha is all geared up to bring the XSR 155 to India, which will happen this year. As for XSR 250, there is no official announcement made by Yamaha. Till then, we will have to wait.
