You don’t have to spend a fortune on advanced suspension systems to make your Yamaha R3 perform like a proper sports bike. But you do have to pay one on its Öhlins NIX 22 and STX 46 front forks.
It is serious performance stuff that can shave off fractions of a second from lap times. But with the excellent engineering that underpinned the system, it won’t take away from the rider’s comfort.
The Öhlins NIX 22 cartridge kit is designed to address the shortcomings of the stock front suspension components of the Yamaha YZF-R3. After experiencing the benefits of the Öhlins product.
I certainly wouldn’t mind paying out of my pocket for an upgrade. But getting these directly with the R3 is a great deal. The kit retails at 653.86 Euros ($772 ).
The rear Öhlins unit is quite similar to the front in terms of adjustments offered. Like the front, you’ll be adjusting rebound and compression damping with knobs on the side of the mono-shock.
Adjustment is also made externally at the same nitrogen canister/reservoir setup found on the front shock.
However, unlike the STX 46 fork, ride height is adjusted with an externally threaded rod instead of a separate fork tube.
It allows for more precise adjustments when dialling in your suspension settings for both street and track use. Pricing for this rear shock starts at 988.06 Euros ($1,165).
