In 2022, both iconic wind-swept Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT races will return. The Manx Grand Prix will celebrate its 100th anniversary in style in 2023, while the Classic TT started in 2013 will make its much-anticipated debut on the historic Mountain Course.
The Isle of Man Government Department for Enterprise and the Manx Motor Cycle Club has just announced a revised format for the 2022 Manx Grand Prix that will fundamentally change how the organizers have structured the event for competitors and fans.
The Manx Motor Cycle Club and the Isle of Man Government are working together towards a compromise that will address many concerns in the local community.
In January 2022, race organizers announced a revised format with the racing and the festival changes. The changes should be helpful for future planning and ideally suited for the Island’s present situation. The organizers are doing away with the Classic TT title entirely.
The organizers announced a revised race format, which organizers hope will bring shorter scheduled road closures. The 2022 Manx Grand Prix has shortened the race schedule from 14 days to nine. The race dates now are August 21 through August 29, 2022.
Five races
The changes come off the back of a review of road closures by event organizers and following consultation with local authorities who manage issues surrounding traffic management and planning.
The Isle of Man TT race organizer, ACU Events, will organize the 2022 Manx Grand Prix. And will have five races.
- Senior Manx Grand Prix – Supersport machines
- Junior Manx Grand Prix – Supertwin machines
- Lightweight Manx Grand Prix – 2 stroke GP machines/ Moto3 machines
- Senior Classic Manx Grand Prix – Classic machines up to 500cc
- Superbike Classic Manx Grand Prix – Superbike Classic machines
However, it is essential to note that newcomers won’t be having any races. But, as per organizers, they are eligible to participate in other Manx GP races.
