BMW’s redesigned M5 prototype has been spotted during testing, and it’s set to make history by being the first in the nameplate’s lineup to incorporate electrification.

The BMW 5-Series is scheduled to debut in May, with sales commencing in October. Anticipated to be released in 2024 as a 2025 model, the M5 is worth looking forward to.

M5

The prototype is the M5 variant, not the redesigned 5-Series. The quad-exhaust tips widened wheel arches, pizza tray-size brake rotors, and multiple intakes in the front fascia are all clear indicators.

Furthermore, the dip in the hood leading back from the centre of the grille, seen on the M3 and M4, and more recently on the 2023 XM, is also present. The spider web-like wheel pattern is another telltale sign, similar to the one on the M3 and M4.

When you enter the car, you will immediately notice the thick-rimmed steering wheel and the floating screens that display the instrument cluster and infotainment system.

It’s worth noting that the latter was introduced in the iX and is gradually being implemented in more BMW models. The unmistakable “Electrified Vehicle” stickers confirm the presence of an electrified powertrain.

V-8 Powertrain

Based on speculation, it’s likely that the electrified V-8 powertrain, which debuted in the XM SUV, will be included. Furthermore, in a prototype video, you can hear the distinct growl of a V-8 engine.

The BMW XM is a must-see for a power and efficiency vehicle. It boasts a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V-8 engine with an electric motor integrated with the transmission, resulting in an impressive 644 hp in standard form.

The 2024 XM Label Red model takes it further, pushing it up to 738 hp. This is a significant increase from the current M5, which tops at 627 hp in the CS model. With the plug-in hybrid setup, you can also enjoy a decent electric driving range.

1000 hp

The vehicle is speculated to boast a horsepower of over 1,000, putting it in the same class as the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire.

The M division has been rigorously testing a four-motor electric powertrain, indicating an unwavering commitment to bringing this concept to fruition. Observing the outcome of this development will undoubtedly be captivating.
