With the help of an American partner Harley-Davidson, Hero MotoCorp is all set to enter the premium bike segment to produce fantastic production models.

There is no official notification regarding the sizes of motors. However, the machines are expected to have 350 cc and above.

Why collaborate?

Hero MotoCorp is known for its 70 per cent of the market share in the entry-level bike segment in India.

So, to enter the middle-weight segment that Royal Enfield currently ace. HeroMotoCorp will break its ritual of 225 cc by bringing a surge in the engine’s power.

The decision for transition will be marked as the biggest-ever bet for this Indian automaker.

For Hero, Karizma ZMR was introduced as the most extensive bike with a 225 cc engine. The model was discontinued in 2019.

Further, there are only two bikes Xtreme 200S and the Xpulse series that is the topline in Hero’s portfolio.

The main objective to tie up with Hardley-Davidson is the license required to produce the middle-weight bike segment.

The company has a market share of approx 90 percent. Thus the required efforts will be less to settle in the middle-weight segment.

Last year, in October, Hero MotoCorp had officially informed about its partnership with Harley-Davison.

Then there are other objectives to accomplish: production, sale, and service of Harley motorcycles in India.

The agreement states Hero MotoCorp will contribute towards the part sales—accessories, merchandise, riding gear, and various apparel through its existing dealership network and Harley dealers.
