On December 22, 2022, KTM North America issued a recall for the GASGAS MC 250, a closed-course competition motorbike. The recall was due to the engine stalling unexpectedly and cited that a defect in the ignition timing system may cause the motorcycle to stall while riding.

This danger of engine stall and high speeds may increase the crash risk. The same notice was issued in Canada by Transport Canada and was updated on October 13, 2022.

The problem is an incorrectly programmed capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) box, which could suddenly cause the engine to fail and make the bike unable to restart. If the engine suddenly stalls, it could increase a rider’s crash risk and injury.
