Electraply - The Wooden e-bike-1

In the ever-evolving world of electric two-wheeled machines, wooden bikes have been making much noise as of late.

It’s no secret that electric bikes are slowly becoming a popular alternative to conventional gas-powered motorcycles.

And more and more people are taking to the idea of creating a vehicle they don’t have to drop a ton of money.

If you’re not into that whole “plugging my bike into a wall” kind of thing either, this might be the project for you.

But this time, we’re met with something that raises the bar in the field of contemporary e-bike design. We’re talking about the Electraply an independently handcrafted electric bike that is made out of wood.

Unlike most electric bikes, this bike comes powered by an internal combustion engine. It instead relies on two qualities found in its namesake, “Electra” and “ply”.

The former is used to describe the electrical aspect of the bike, while the latter refers to plywood.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the critical elements that make up this fully working concept design.

The Electraply is based loosely on the design of classic vintage electrics, with plenty of retro touches.

Using the material to her advantage, Evie Bee built a frame that features several different pieces of wood joined together by glue and steel screws.

The battery is situated at the centre and top of the frame. The results are pretty stunning.

The wooden frame has a unique look. Judging by the pictures posted by Evie Bee, the bike can take us back in time to an era when they essentially made motorcycles out of wood. But this one, however, is fueled by electricity instead of gasoline.

The essentials

The bike comes powered with a 36V, 12.5 Ah Yose Power battery. Further, the Electraply comes equipped with a suspension fork. The bike gets 26-inch wheels.

If you are looking to pedal, you can do it with the help of built-in pedals that calibrates the rear wheel. A cantilever rim brakes support the wheels.

It’s about time we took a more cycle-friendly approach to commute, so the Evie Bee Electraply is one of the most revolutionary, eco-friendly concepts I’ve seen in some time.

Designed with formalities in mind, the Electraply has been crafted from wood and features an electric motor that is certainly reminiscent of the powertrain found on most electric bikes today.

Evie Bee has also made a short video around the bike and documented two books about her preparation, design and build.

She also plans to start a fundraiser campaign on Kickstarter that will help her to penetrate the market.
